Successfully Installed 90 KLD STP Plant at Great Lakes Institute of Management Gurgaon

Good wastewater management is an important need for schools, residential campuses, commercial buildings, hotels, hospitals and other facilities producing large amounts of domestic sewage each day. A well-designed Sewage Treatment Plant is not just a tool for helping an institution responsibly manage its wastewater output, but it can also enable treated wastewater to be recycled for beneficial purposes other than potable water, thereby minimizing the need for fresh water.

Our team successfully installed a Sewage Treatment Plant of 90 KLD at Great Lakes Institute of Management, Gurgaon. The project was conceptualized to meet the following criteria: wastewater treatment system that is efficient, reliable and user friendly; and treats wastewater generated during the various activities within the institutional campus.

Great Lakes Institute of Management says it has a campus in the Delhi NCR corporate hub with a spread of around 7.5 acres, making the need for reliable infrastructure to run the campus essential.

The project for KLD STP has been conducted with a focus on effective treatment of the sewage, stable plant operation, recovery of treated water, ease of maintenance and sustainability.

Project Overview

Design, supply, installation, testing and commissioning of a 90 KLD Sewage Treatment Plant for Great Lakes Institute of Management, Gurgaon.

Wastewater generated in educational campuses comes from various sources such as washrooms, toilet, kitchen, housekeeping activities, hostel, administrative area and other utility areas. This wastewater, if released untreated, can cause water pollution, bad smell, sanitation issues and unnecessary strain on freshwater.

Hence, the purpose of this project was to set up an integrated treatment plant, which can receive the sewage generated inside the campus and treat it using a combination of physical, biological and filtration methods.

The plant was designed to:

  • Capable of treating up to 90 KLD of sewage per day.
  • Minimize the presence of organic and suspended pollutants in wastewater.
  • Generate treated water, suitable for approved non-potable reuse applications.
  • Minimise odour and operational problems.
  • Offering a compact and efficient treatment solution.
  • Minimise use of freshwater by using treated water.
  • Facilitate convenient operation and routine maintenance.
  • Promote environmentally friendly waste management practices on campus.

The successful installation reflects our expertise as a Sewage Treatment Plant Manufacturer in Gurgaon to create customized STPs based on the institutions’ wastewater generation pattern, the available space, the requirement of wastewater treatment, and operating requirements.

Application Treatment & Reuse of domestic wastewater that is produced in the campus.
Industry Segment Education / Institutional Infrastructure

Great Lakes Institute of Management has its campus in Gurgaon, Delhi NCR. It is a contemporary Management Education institution located in the business heart of NCR, Delhi.

A wastewater system needs to accommodate fluctuations in sanitary drains between morning and evening for an institutional campus. Hydraulic loads may be different in student activity areas, residential facilities, food service areas, washrooms, administrative areas, and housekeeping activities.

Therefore, the STP was planned to be an integrated wastewater treatment system that could cater to the day-to-day needs of the campus and still provide reliable treatment.

Project Location

The Great Lakes Gurgaon campus is situated in Delhi NCR area. The public data obtained from the institute highlights that the Gurgaon campus is located in a strategic business and educational hub in the NCR.

Gurgaon, also now Gurugram, has seen significant growth in institutional, residential, commercial, hospitality, healthcare and corporate infrastructure. This further stresses the need for decentralised wastewater treatment and good water reuse.

When it comes to choosing the Sewage Treatment Plant Manufacturer in Gurgaon, a good Sewage Treatment Plant should not only be chosen based on the capacity. The wastewater characteristics, available space, hydraulic differences, ease of operation, sludge management, energy needs, and treated water use should also be taken into account when designing it.

These were taken into account when planning and installing the 90 KLD.

Plant Capacity

The installed Sewage Treatment Plant has a treatment capacity of:

90 KLD is the term used for 90 Kilolitres per day.

Under the design conditions mentioned the sewage treatment plant can handle up to about 90,000 litres of sewage every day.

One of the most crucial steps in designing an STP is determining capacity. An undersized plant may hydraulically overload the plant and cause sub-optimal treatment, while a significantly oversized plant will cost more than is needed without providing any treatment benefit.

Some institutional projects may also have significant variations in sewage flows during the day. Peaks may be in the mornings, lunch times, break time, evenings or hostel time.

Thus collection and equalisation is essential to ensure balance of the sewage before the biological treatment.

The selection of the 90 KLD capacity was determined to be adequate for the site’s needs, but also to insure that the treatment stages run one by one and efficiently.

Treatment Technology

The treatment system was structured based on an aerobic biological sewage-treatment with primary treatment, clarification, filtration, disinfection and sludge treatment.

If suitable, an MBBR based biological treatment cell configuration can be considered for such a project to provide an effective organic pollutant reduction in a relatively small area.

Why Biological Treatment?

Biodegradable organic matter is present in the domestic wastewater. Biological treatment involves treating the organic contaminants with microorganisms under controlled conditions.

Adequate aeration is available to ensure aerobic microorganisms are kept active to help degrade any biodegradable pollutant to a more stable biological material.

Treatment concept involves a combination of:

Physical Treatment → Biological Treatment → Solid Separation → Tertiary Filtration → Disinfection → Treated Water Reuse

A process was chosen that would offer a consistent treatment yet be both practical and helpful to an institutional setting.

If the plant in question is actually an SBR, MBBR, MBR, SAFF, ASP or other biological technology, the name of the technology and description of the process should be changed to the actual installed technology as part of this case study before publication.

Influent Characteristics

The wastewater received is mainly Domestic Wastewater (DW) from campus activities.

Common sources can be:

  • Toilets and washrooms
  • Hand-washing facilities

The following types can be considered as residential/hostel areas:

  • Facilities for cooking and eating in the kitchen/dining area.
  • The staff and administrative areas are kept separate.
  • Housekeeping activities

Other domestic wastewater-generating facilities:

The following are parameters for wastewater that are important to consider when designing an STP:

Parameter Typical Design Consideration
Daily Flow Up to 90 KLD
pH Approximately 6.5–8.5
BOD Typical domestic sewage range
COD Typical domestic sewage range
TSS Variable according to sewage characteristics
Oil & Grease Dependent on kitchen contribution
Temperature Ambient/site dependent

The properties of wastewater may vary depending on the type of occupancy, volume of water used, food-service activities, cleaning procedures, and how the facility is used. Therefore, the process flexibility of the treatment system should be sufficient to accept normal fluctuations without adverse effects on treatment.

In such applications, the removal of sudden changes in the hydraulic or pollutant loads which reach the biological treatment stage is especially useful, as the wastewater flow is equalized.

Treatment Process

The wastewater is fed into a series of treatment processes before it enters the storage tank for reuse.

Process Step Description
Step 1: Sewage Collection The wastewater produced from various portions of the campus is deposited in the STP via the sewage collection network. All wastewater collected is first treated in the preliminary treatment area.
Step 2: Screening Larger floating materials and other solids that might be undesirable like plastics, cloth, paper, sanitized waste, and other debris are removed using screens. Screening keeps pumps, pipelines and downstream treatment facilities from being clogged or damaged.
Step 3: Equalisation The sewage is pumped into the equalisation tank after screening. The equalisation tank is important, as the wastewater produced is not necessarily even over the course of the day. Sewage is temporarily stored and blended to provide a relatively uniform flow to the biological treatment system. This helps: reduce shock loading, balance fluctuations in flow, improve biological-treatment stability, and avoid sudden load ups of downstream units.
Step 4: Biological Treatment The equalised sewage is pumped into the biological treatment tank. Aerobic microorganisms break down biodegradable dissolved and suspended organic matter here. Blowers and diffusers are used to introduce air to provide oxygen to microorganisms. On the surface of the specially designed bio-media, microorganisms will be able to grow and form a biological film in an MBBR-type configuration. The microorganisms in the biological reactor eat the organic pollutants and the biodegradable pollution load is greatly decreased.
Step 5: Secondary Clarification The treated wastewater then goes into a settling (or clarification) stage. The treated liquid is separated from the biological solids by gravity settling. The settled sludge is removed for additional treatment and the clarified water flows on to tertiary treatment. Good clarification reduces the amount of suspended solids, and also makes the downstream filtration more effective.
Step 6: Pressure Sand Filtration Water is sent to a Pressure Sand Filter (PSF). In this stage, the residual suspended particles and turbidity that can still remain after biological treatment and clarification are removed.
Step 7: Activated Carbon Filtration The water is then treated in an Activated Carbon Filter (ACF). Activated carbon can be used to enhance treated water quality as it adsorbs some residual organics and to reduce some colour and odour.
Step 8: Disinfection Selected disinfection system used to disinfect the filtered water. Disinfection can be used to reduce the pathogenic microorganisms in treated wastewater, and enhance its quality for designated non-potable reuse applications. The treated water is then sent to the storage tanks. Finally, treated water is collected in a treated-water tank from where it can be pumped for approved reuse applications within the campus.

Major Equipment

The biological treatment technology is not the only critical element for successful STP performance; selection and integration of the mechanical, electrical, and filtration equipment is also critical.

The key elements of the 90 KLD STP are equipment such as:

Equipment Function
Sewage Transfer Pumps Depending on the plant configuration, these pumps move wastewater from collection to equalisation and from equalisation to treatment.
Air Blowers The air needed for biological treatment is provided by blowers. Proper oxygen transfer is necessary to ensure aerobic microbial activity.
Fine Bubble Diffusers An in-tank diffuser breaks the air into small bubbles, enhancing the oxygen transfer efficiency in the biological tank.
Biological Media In an MBBR process specially designed carrier media is used that creates a great surface area for the development of attached microbial biomass.
Pressure Sand Filter The PSF filters out any residual suspended matter and turbidity and acts as a tertiary filter.
Activated Carbon Filter To remove residual odour, colour and some dissolved organic materials, the ACF gives polishing treatment.
Sludge Handling System Settled biological solids are sent to sludge management. Sludge may be held, thickened, dewatered, or removed from the site periodically, depending on the site configuration.
Dosing System Chemical dosing equipment may be supplied as needed for disinfection, pH correction or other process needs.
Electrical Control Panel Electromechanical equipment such as pumps, blowers, etc. are combined with the electrical control panel. Plant operation is safer and easier thanks to the appropriate automation and protection systems.
Piping, Valves and Instrumentation Pipelines are interconnected, isolation valves are used, non-return valves are installed, flow-control devices are provided, pressure gauges are installed, level controls are installed and other instrumentation are provided to allow for controlled movement of wastewater throughout the plant.

Installation Process

The 90 KLD Sewage Treatment Plant was installed at Great Lakes Institute of Management, Gurgaon in a systematic manner during the course of a project-execution process.

1. Site Assessment

The initial phase was to be the needs assessment and identification of factors that would be an issue for installation of the project, such as:

  • Sewage generation
  • Available installation area
  • Existing civil infrastructure
  • Inlets and outlets.
  • Electrical availability
  • Treated-water reuse requirements
  • Equipment-access requirements

The planning and operation of the building are addressed.

2. Engineering and System Planning

The treatment sequence, equipment requirements, hydraulic connections and electrical arrangements were planned based on the site conditions.

Equipment sizing was done in conjunction with the 90 KLD design capacity and the anticipated sewage characteristics.

3. Equipment Supply

The necessary pumps, blowers, diffusers, filters, piping, control systems, etc. for treatment were delivered to the project site following the installation schedule.

4. Mechanical Installation

Mechanical equipment was set-up and linked as per the process design. These included pumps, air blowers, filtration units, piping, valves and components of the biological treatment.

5. Electrical Integration

Wiring for electrical panels, power connections, motor protection systems, level-control arrangements, and equipment wiring were finished.

6. Piping and Interconnections

Process pipelines connected the various treatment units to allow for proper pipeline flow, ease of access and ability to isolate for maintenance.

7. Inspection and Pre-Commissioning Checks

The entire installation was checked prior to commissioning for:

  • Pipeline leakage
  • Correct pump rotation
  • Blower operation
  • Valve functioning
  • Air distribution
  • Electrical safety
  • Tank levels
  • Filter operation
  • Control-panel functioning

This systematic approach of plant installation was helpful to make the plant ready for controlled commissioning.

Plant Commissioning

Commissioning is among the most crucial steps in an STP project as biological wastewater treatment cannot be just assessed by turning on the wastewater treatment plants.

The plant was commissioned in a progressive manner to permit evaluation of the systems – hydraulic, mechanical, electrical and biological – under operating conditions.

The activities carried out by the commission were:

  • All treatment tanks and equipment to be inspected.
  • Sewage-Transfer Pumps Test.
  • Performance verification of air-blower.
  • Inspecting the air-distribution system.
  • Testing filters and pipelines connecting filters.
  • Clampdown Bolster Harness.
  • Valves and Electrical Controls.
  • Introduction of wastewater to the treatment system.
  • Development and stabilisation of biological activity.
  • Aeration and operating cycle adjustment.
  • Settling and clarification are observed.
  • Operation of tertiary filtration in trial.
  • The quality of treated water
  • Plant Operator Training/guidance.

Stable performance of biological systems is obtained after a proper development and operating conditions. During commissioning, the process conditions are thus measured and optimized until the desired treatment is achieved.

Treated Water Reuse

Installing an STP is one of the most important benefits of treating wastewater instead of simply dumping it into a stream of waste.

The treated water from the 90 KLD plant following the biological treatment, clarification, filtering and disinfecting can be used for approved non-potable uses with applicable quality requirements.

Possible re-use applications are:

  • Landscape irrigation
  • Gardening
  • Flushing
  • Campus horticulture

Treated wastewater can be utilized for non-potable purposes, which decreases the need for freshwater.

This is beneficial to the environment and to the operations of a large institutional campus. Primary water used for domestic purposes can be treated and reused for appropriate secondary uses.

Results and Performance

After the installation and commissioning the 90 KLD Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) set up a system for managing sewage generated at the Great Lakes Institute of Management (GLIM) Gurgaon campus.

The outcomes of the major project are:

Customized Sewage Treatment Plants – Gurgaon Manufacturer Spotlight

Gurgaon has earned its name as a fast-growing industrial city and a tech hub near Delhi. The city sees high demand for smart water management. Sewage treatment plays a key part in keeping water safe and recycling used water. Netsol Water is the leading Sewage Treatment Plant Manufacturer in Gurgaon. This company brings deep expertise to each project and adapts solutions to suit local needs. We will explore how customized sewage treatment plants meet the unique needs of Gurgaon projects.

Customized Design and Capacity Planning

Customization matters when each site faces its own challenges in land size, flow volumes and effluent standards. Netsol Water studies project needs and local regulations. This step ensures the plant works without waste or overcapacity. Let us have a look on some key aspects.

Design Customization

Every project starts with a detailed survey of the land and the sewage flow patterns. Netsol Water creates plans that fit the plot size and shape. They map out tanks, piping and control panels. They adapt the layout so the plant fits in tight spaces or larger industrial parks. The team checks soil type and ground slope. The plant uses less power and runs more smoothly. Using personalized designs reduces costs and boosts efficiency.

Capacity Scaling

After layout design comes sizing of each treatment stage. Netsol Water looks at peak flow rates and average loads. They size each tank pump and filter to match these values. This step ensures the plant treats all incoming water even on heavy use days. They also plan for future growth. If a community expands or a factory ups its output the plant can handle extra flow. By planning this way the client avoids expensive upgrades later. This approach keeps the system stable and cost effective over years of use.

Innovative Treatment Technologies

Advanced treatment helps remove solids organic matter and harmful microbes. Netsol Water studies each project to choose the best methods. They combine proven methods with newer tools. Let us have a look on some key technologies by leading Sewage Treatment Plant Manufacturer in Gurgaon.

Membrane Bioreactor Technology

Membrane bioreactor merges biological breakdown with fine filtration. In this process microbes feed on organic waste in an aeration tank. Then water passes through membrane filters that trap suspended particles and bacteria. This yields very clear effluent ready for reuse in irrigation or cooling. Netsol Water installs modular membrane units that fit any plant size. The membranes last many years and need simple cleaning. This reduces footprint and boosts output quality when clients need high grade reuse water.

RO Plant Integration

Second stage polishing often uses an RO Plant for removing dissolved solids and salts. Netsol Water links the RO Plant to the treated water outlet with a clear flow path and control valves. The system pushes water at the right pressure to pass through thin film membranes. The result is near pure water that meets strict standards. Netsol Water sets up automated controls to protect membranes and to flush out concentrates. This step gives clients the option to reuse water for high purity needs like boiler feed or industrial wash.

Installation and Maintenance Services

Even a well designed plant fails without correct installation and regular care. Netsol Water handles each stage with trained staff. They ensure long term performance and safe operation. Let us have a look on some support services.

Installation Process

The installation team arrives on site with all equipment and tools. They follow a clear plan to place tanks pumps, pipes and electrical panels. The staff checks alignment levels and weld joints at every step. They test welds and connections under low pressure before full start up. Netsol Water runs trial cycles to tune controls and to check flow paths. They train the client team on monitoring gauges, handling alarms and basic maintenance. This hands on approach reduces start up delays and surprises.

After-sales Support

Once the plant runs the support team takes over. Netsol Water schedules visits to inspect pumps valves, membranes and sensors. They replace worn parts and clean filters before blockages form. They use remote monitoring tools to track flow rates, pH levels and sludge volume. When alarms appear they call the client and guide them on fixes or send a technician. Netsol Water also offers spare part kits and on call support. This service keeps the plant healthy and avoids plant downtime.

Precision, Purity, and Performance – STPs from Gurgaon Experts

Gurgaon stands as a center of rapid growth and modern living. Netsol Water is the leading Sewage Treatment Plant Manufacturer in Gurgaon. Its work shapes how communities and businesses treat wastewater with care. The process of cleaning sewage calls for strict precision to meet local rules. It also calls for high purity in treated effluent for reuse. It needs strong performance across varying loads and conditions. We will explore why precision,  purity and performance matters in a treatment plant.

Precision in Sewage Treatment Plant Design

The choice of correct design makes all steps work without waste or error. Precision helps reduce waste and cut costs. It guides every pipeline size and pump rating. This focus on exact detail starts with site study. It moves to careful selection of units. Then it goes to precise settings for each stage. Let us have a look on some key elements that ensure this precision.

Detailed Site Assessment

Experts start by measuring flow rates and pollutant loads. They gather data on daily basis. They map out land area and soil type on site. They check water table depth below the surface. They note nearby buildings and roads that affect layout. This careful survey lets them match each unit to the real conditions. It helps avoid future problems such as leaks or overflows. It guides the exact piping layout to ensure smooth flow. It also steers decisions on whether to add buffer tanks. All these steps rely on clear data and careful checks. This work drives precision from day one.

Computer Aided Design Control

After the survey experts use computer tools to model the plant. They feed in data from the site and predicted loads. The software then simulates flow and reaction times in each tank. It predicts how bacteria will break down waste. It shows pressure drops in pipes and energy use of pumps. The team adjusts the model until it meets all targets. They set exact tolerances for tank volumes and retention times. They choose pumps and blowers with rated performance above the needed maximum. It brings clear proof that every part of the plant will work as planned. Precision in design thus flows from high quality data and smart tools.

Purity of Treated Water and Effluent Quality

Pure treated water protects public health and the environment. It also opens doors for water reuse in landscaping or cooling towers. Experts focus on removing organic matter solids and microbes with care. They design steps that target each pollutant type in turn. Let us have a look on some critical steps that ensure this purity.

Biological Treatment and Bacteria Selection

After initial screening experts route sewage to a biological reactor. They add cultures of helpful bacteria that feed on waste. The team chooses strains best suited for local temperatures. They set aeration and mixing rates to keep the bugs healthy. They monitor dissolved oxygen and pH levels around the clock. They use probes and sensors that stream real time data. The operators adjust air flow or recycle rates without delay. This active control keeps the microbial process at peak removal efficiency. It strips out organic load down to safe levels. Only then does the water move to the next polishing step.

Filtration and Disinfection Stages

Once the bulk of waste has gone the team channels water to filters. They pick media that capture fine solids and remaining catalysts. They set filter gravity and backwash cycles with exact timing. They then dose disinfectant to kill any lingering microbes. They choose safe doses of chlorine or UV intensity for full kill. They track residual disinfectant downstream to confirm no harmful excess. They tune each step until the treated water meets or beats local norms. This layered approach locks in high purity. It delivers water that meets strict quality requirements every day.

Performance and Operational Efficiency

A treatment plant’s success depends on steady performance. It must handle peaks without failure. It must keep energy use low to save money. Local experts in Gurgaon focus on smart controls and flexible design. They plan for future expansion and integration with other water units. Let us have a look on some key strategies that secure this performance.

Energy Management and Automation

Operators install variable speed drives on pumps and blowers. These drives adapt motor speed to flow needs. They reduce power use when loads drop at night or on weekends. They tie sensors on each unit to a central control panel. The system logs data on power spikes and idle times. It then sends alerts if any unit drifts from its optimal range. The team also fits solar panels to offset grid power. They link excess energy into the plant grid. They use smart lighting and standby modes on idle units. They also ensure the plant stays online even during power dips.
